I Made An Edible Iron Throne! and you can too!

Game of Thrones… What an incredible, thrilling and epic adventure. I’ve been in love with the TV show and books for years , (sorry i am a filthy commoner right now , I haven’t finished the books >_>  lol )
For the season 5 launch, my husband and I went over to my brother in law’s.
To commemorate, I decided to bake a cake, and for the topper I also decided to go all out and make an edible Iron Throne!

The cake is just a normal box cake, with icing and red candy melts for the simulated blood under the chair.

What you need for the Chair:

  • 2 bags of chocolate candy melts
  • 1 can of silver food coloring
  • 2 tbs of Corn syrup
  • 8 bars of rice crispies (you can make your own if you want)
  • 2 cookie sheets ( for chilling the sculpted chocolate swords)
  • wax paper (to easily remove the swords from your cookie sheet)
  • knife
  • Daenerys Targaryen doll optional lol

After you bake your cake according to package directions, begin making the modelling chocolate, this is really easy ,  create a bain marie aka double boiler, and melt the chocolate (save an ounce or so for gluing the swords) .

Take it off the heat and add 2 tbs of corn syrup and it will thicken up like magic.

kneed it a little, until it almost feels like a dough and place it aside , preferably in cling wrap.

Time to move on to the chair base. You will need a reference photo and the rice crispies treats for this. It doesn’t have to be perfect, ( i am sorry i don’t have a progress photo), don’t be gentle with the rice crispies here, work it like putty or clay. Mine measured about 8 inches high, 5 inches wide and 4 inches deep.

Take your modelling chocolate, flatten out enough into a layer to go over your rice chair base, and cover every inch of it, it should be about a quarter of an inch thick.

Flatten out another batch and cut it into strips about a third of inch wide and a fifth of an inch thick. These will be your swords , feel free to add handles and grips etc as seen in the photos..
Attach half the swords to your chair according to reference photos, almost like they are melting all over the seat , arm rests and back rest..

Put the other half the swords in the freezer for ten minutes, grab some more candy melt and start attaching the spiky ones to the back rest in a peacock formation.

Finally when you’re happy with how it looks, grab your food safe spray paint and lightly dust the chair, don’t go overboard because it tastes horrible if it’s too concentrated.

and there you go! your cake topper is ready ! Congrats and

you know…

Winter is coming
